Producer and talk show host Oprah Winfrey released her sixth book in April, and to nobody's surprise, it's already making waves. The book, titled What Happened to You? Conversations on Trauma, Resilience, and Healing was co-authored with renowned brain and trauma expert, Dr. Bruce Perry. It details Winfrey's own history of personal childhood trauma, and reveals a new approach to dealing with past trauma as well. Not surprisingly, the book has already made it to the top of the New York Times Bestseller list. On May 6th, Winfrey took to Instagram to post that the book is officially a New York Times bestseller. Many fans reacted positively to the news, praising Winfrey for starting conversations that have the power to change lives. Winfrey has previously spoken up about her past, but it is always a topic of interest, as she is a great example of someone who has overcome her obstacles to achieve greater-than-life success. During a 2012 Ball State University lecture series sponsored by David Letterman, Winfrey revealed that she experienced physical and sexual abuse as a child. She stated that she would receive beatings until she bled, and was raped at the age of nine. In 2018, she investigated childhood trauma and how to treat it in a 60 Minutes report. Furthermore, much of her career has been focused on helping others to share their stories, and on helping underserved children. In her latest book, Winfrey recounts being forced to sleep outside on the porch as a child, amongst other shocking events. But the book goes beyond the billionaire's past, and delves into the connection between trauma and well-being. It has received 4.5 out of 5 stars on Amazon and rave reviews from book critics, with many readers claiming that it provided new clarification and insights regarding their traumas. The book is available to purchase on whathappenedtoyoubook.com and at major booksellers. Source: https://www.thethings.com/
